OML #008 Stop Wasting Time On Things You Don’t Value
3 steps to optimise your time and be more fulfilling

Hello beautiful people! 🤘
(and welcome, my +1 new friends to Ohh My Life!)
It’s been a long 1 month I’ve not published any content on newsletter and social media. I sincerely apologize for the missing in action! 🤦♂️
I decided to take a pause for a month for a family trip and a protected space for me to realign myself. And, I am sorry for not informing you all earlier. There’s so much to tell on what was going on my mind for the past month.
But, for today, I’d love to share how I create rules to protect time for matters I truly value (which usually, in return, give me the most happiness and fulfillment).
TIME is precious and irreversible. We all know that. But, it’s really difficult to truly act with this mindset.
One day passed. One week passed. One month passed. One whole year passed.
All filled with random tasks, endless scrolling of social media, and unfulfilling adventures.
I am also in the same situation, but I decided to make a change.
As an ex-investment analyst, I find ways to understand how I can achieve HIGHEST Return of Fulfillment through my invested time. Here’s how I do it.
1. Create A “To Always Do List”
To do things we love, we need to know what we love. Take a paper and write down everything that’s important.
Ask ourselves these two questions:
what do I usually spend my time on?
when do I feel most happy / fulfilling?
Not easy. Be honest to heart.
Here’s mine after many times of tough reflections. (don’t copy mine! hahaha)
Basketball (and sports, in general)
Conversations with Family & Friends (note: not every friend is worth your time. Really!)
Watching funny videos (I love to laugh)
Cracking jokes (I love seeing people laugh)
Cooking
Cleaning the house
ME Time to reflect, relax
2. Block Time Dedicated To The Things That Matter.
Now that we know what makes us happy we should mindfully dedicate more time to do more of these. I make sure to block out time (i.e. 30 mins of xxx on Mon morning) on my calendar to do things that give me most fulfillment and energy.
For instance,
Sports - Basketball on Sun + May Thai on Mon & Wed
Conversations - Mon, Wed, Sat to call parents + 4 calls a month with friends I care
Things Make Me Laugh - 30 mins a day (usually evenings)
Cooking - once or twice a week (usually weekends)
Cleaning - once a week (usually weekends)
ME Time - morning and evening, daily
We are living in the world of rush, busyness, and tasks we can’t control. But, we can control what we love to do by blocking out specific time for them. This simple action saves mental power to remember and reminds us to consistently do them.
3. Ignore The Noises.
Since we know what matters to us, we can simply ignore those that don’t whenever possible.
I personally put the list on my wall to remind myself every time I am faced with the noises (i.e. more social media scrolling, more mindless dinners with friends, etc).
That’s all for today! I hope reading the OML newsletter is on your “To Always Do List”. 🙂
